About Me
My name is Nina Gafni. I am a professional French, German, and Italian to English translator, proofreader, interpreter and genealogy researcher with over 15 years of experience as an in-house linguist and project manager, in the private sector and for the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. My translation specializations include legal, financial, medical, music, art, and genealogy. I am based in the Washington, DC area.
I hold an AB in French Studies with a minor in German from Smith College in Northampton, MA. During my time at Smith College, I spent a year at the Université de Paris-IV Sorbonne, in Paris, France. I received my MA in International Economics and European Studies from The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC and Bologna, Italy. I also hold a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and have graduated from the ProGen Study Group.
Why work with me?
Translation and interpretation do not simply involve replacing words in one language with words in another. A good translator and interpreter knows that when it comes to translation and interpretation, the most important thing is to convey the meaning of the source language in a way that flows easily into the target language. This requires a knowledge not just of the language, but also the culture, something a good language coach knows as well. Whether you are a business trying to expand abroad or in the United States, a doctor trying to communicate with a patient, a researcher trying to find long-lost relatives, or simply someone who needs an extra set of eyes to review a translation, you cannot afford to take chances. You need someone with linguistic and cultural know-how. I specialize in providing my clients with accurate, timely, and culturally-sensitive translations and interpretations, and in helping professionals improve their language skills. Why not let me handle the tough stuff while you focus on the other aspects of your daily business?
